Possible Target Groups for the Test
School achievement is partly dependent on the mental
capacity of the child, partly on his/her motivation, and partly
on the efficiency of the current educational program.
If school achievement is not satisfactory, this may be caused
by a lack of capacity or motivation in the child, or it may be
caused by a deficiency in the educational system.
A test is needed, which measures mental ability irrespectively
of child's motivation or school's educational quality.
All over the world teachers are well aware of the fact that a lack
of achievement in a child can be caused by a lack of
concentration ability. Many teachers are able to subjectively
judge a pupil's concentration ability by classroom observation
and would welcome
- an objective,
- theoretically based and
- teacher friendly
measure in order to determine whether or not there is a
correspondence between their subjective impression and this
objective measure. Consequently, the teachers would have
available to them a more scientifically sound argument
for determining whether lack of concentration ability is really
the cause of poor school achievement. In the case of a
disagreement between parents and teacher regarding the
question of whether lack of ability or insufficient teaching is
the cause of lower grades, the test can be an extremely
important help.
Of additional importance is the fact that the test can also
enable one to determine the teaching load of a classroom.
Obviously, the more children with concentration problems,
the heavier the classroom teaching load.
In addition to the Primary School Children, their teachers,
remedial teachers, and parents as a possible target group
for the ACT, the test can also be used as a College Entrance
Examination Test. This is especially true for Positions.
Next to Achievement, the measurement of
pure Ability seems to be an almost necessary requirement
to assess subject's probability of success at the University.
