There is the case of a man who stood for the judge in a suit for
damages (money). He was accused of violently yanking-off the sleeve
of the coat of a woman and causing bruises. It had appeared in broad
daylight, in the middle of a town, and the accused and victim were
not acquainted with each other. The man had to plead guilty because
there were plenty of witnesses. It was not till the defending
counselor showed that the lady in question had slipped on the side
of the pavement and was certain to be crushed under a heavy lorry,
but for the violent action of the defendant, that it was realized
that justice is somewhat more complex than simple guilty/not-guilty.
The reader will, I am certain, be in favour of demanding damages
from the lady for trying to extract money from a man who saved her
life.
